There are so many products on the market, but did you ever know that there are so many different types of grass seeds? When you have to make this choice, it is not surprising that all of a sudden, out of all the stress, you choose artificial grass, because it is the easiest. It also prevents the chance of lawn weeds. Although artificial grass has many advantages, there is nothing more beautiful than a real green lawn. With the tips below, you know what to look for when buying grass seed.
The purpose of your lawn
The best grass seed depends on how you intend to use your lawn. Is it intended for children to play on or do you want to relax on your lawn? It could also be that the lawn serves as a piece of scenery and no one would ever walk on it. This has a big influence on which type of grass seed is most suitable for your lawn. For example, buying a shade-grown lawn seed is not recommended if the lawn receives more than 3 hours of sunlight per day. Another rule of thumb is that if the grass is recreated or played on 3 times a week that grass seed for a play lawn is best. This is because grass seed for a play lawn is strong grass seed. Grass seed for an ornamental lawn is weaker, which means that the seed quickly loses quality during intensive use.
Different types
As mentioned before, there are three types of grass seeds that are most common; shadow lawn, play lawn and ornamental lawn. In addition to these types of grass seeds, there are also grass seeds that are claimed to germinate more quickly, require less maintenance or are specially formulated to repair bald spots. Be careful here, though, because many of these varieties are secretly very similar to the three most common types of grass seed. Take for example the grass seeds that are ‘specially’ formulated for less maintenance. If you look closely at the composition of such grass seeds, they are almost exactly the same as a grass seed composition for a play lawn. This is because a play lawn needs less maintenance than an ornamental lawn. Often, these ‘special’ grass seed mixtures are more expensive than the regular 3 grass seed mixtures. Therefore, choose the purpose for which the lawn must serve and then choose a ‘standard’ seed mixture. This saves a tremendous amount of money, and the result is the same.
